Interporto Trento, Italy

Situated in the heart of the mountains on the border between Austria and Italy, this logistics centre in the suburbs of Trento, Italy, embodies the energy of mechanical production amid a natural environment.

Spanning an area of 55.000m² of built environment, the expression of the main building reflects the distribution process. A series of cantilevered structures – white aluminium containers with glass facades run across the body of the central building – adorn the facade. These form a repeated pattern that embodies the daily rhythm of the logistics centre. Punctuating the flow between each container are steel rods that also form part of the exoskeleton of the overall building. A glazing system allows each office to have open views out onto the mountains, and also amplifies the flow of natural light into the interiors.
