Grand Egyptian Museum Cairo, Egypt
This striking vision for the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo proposes a structure built into the heart of the desert. Celebrating the wealth of Egyptian history and the country’s cultural legacy, the museum building is embedded into the sand, where the outer edges are covered and revealed with the changing direction of the wind, as though they were archaeological discoveries themselves.
The constellation of elements converge here to offer one dynamic structure through composite parts. Exteriors consist of concrete and composite aluminium panels, which reflect the light into the surrounding area. Parallel to the museum building is a water feature, an additional embodiment of the idea of cultural replenishment in the heart of the desert.
The interior systems invite a singular flow of movement through the museum, facilitating a controlled discovery of exhibits within the exhibition space. Visitors enter into a central, open hall from which they can navigate into specialist rooms throughout the exhibitions. Minimal veneer panels were used to create a neutral space for the exhibits, and emphasise the displays.
