Data Centre Chisinau, Moldova

A functional-first approach was essential to the development of this project. In creating a data centre, the building needed to primarily support the activity of the servers, but also create a positive aesthetic environment for those who worked in the building.

The project employed a textured approach that evoked the energy of the centre. The entrance is enveloped by a perforated mesh that surrounds a metal facade, with a generous green frontage that offers a balance to the industrial activity of the building.

The core black and white building patterns are influenced by the binary code system. In order to protect the servers, there are no openings from the exterior. Ensuring that the buildings were robust to withstand natural disasters was especially essential for this project. The structure is earthquake proof and the interiors, which are elevated to protect from flooding damage, are able to process excess water through an underground drainage system. Climate control elements were also essential. For example, cooling systems are housed under the roof of the long black building that runs across the spine of the main building to regulate the temperature of the servers.
