Aelia Resort Rhodes, Greece
With immense views of the beach and sea, the Aelia Resort in Rhodes immerses guests in striking natural scenery from the start of their trip. Covering an area 87.000 m², the project’s main objective was to create a seamless luxury experience that was comfortable and intuitive for guests from from the moment they entered the hotel lobby.
The flagship building in the resort is the main residence. Set over three storeys, it features restaurant and bars, shops, a fitness centre and luxury suites. The building’s convex expression presents a smooth stone facade on the entrance, while different levels and terraces on the resort facing side create character and movement. Adjacent to the main residence, independent villas are embedded into a sandstone facade, by Rhodes’ historic walls of fortification.
Water is used as a core element throughout the environment. The central swimming pools situated behind the main hotel building facilitate communal leisure and relaxation. A path that curves towards the sea is lined with detached green-roofed villas, each featuring their own private pools. And a zig-zagging water-lined pathway also invites guests to meander towards the sea – given the distance between some villas and the beach, the formation of the path was important, with these shorter water panels keeping guests focused on what was just ahead of them and cutting the sense of distance.
The main residences are at the heart of the resort, but the wider site also features a waterpark, soccer-fields, beach bar, kids club and a playground.
